Twitter has become one of the most influential social media sites from the last few years. It is also the best micro-blogging website currently available for the users. Now, Twitter allowed users to tweet in just 140 characters earlier. The limit has been recently doubled by Twitter to 280 characters. Same as other social media websites, Twitter also allows users to reply to tweets. Time and again, there have been reports of abuse on Twitter’s reply section.
This abuse might be in the form of sexual content or in the form of hate comments. Thus, it had become necessary for some kind of moderation to be available to the users on Twitter. We now have the reports that Twitter is indeed working on one such feature. This feature is reportedly called as ‘Hide Reply’ feature. Basically, this feature will let users hide the replies on their tweets, temporarily.
Now, we would like to emphasize on the word temporarily because you will not be able to hide the replies permanently. Also, the replies can still be seen by other users on Twitter. However, they will have to enable the show reply option from the menu. This ‘hide reply’ feature adds to the currently-available features such as mute, block or report.
Senior Product Manager Michelle Yasmeen Haq provided this information on Twitter via a tweet. he mentioned that “People who start interesting conversations on Twitter are really important to us, and we want to empower them to make the conversations they start (remain) as healthy as possible by giving them some control,”
Haq also went on to say that Twitter will start testing this feature publicly for its users in the coming months. On the working of this feature, Haq tweeted that “With this feature, the person who started a conversation could choose to hide replies to their tweets. The hidden replies would be viewable by others through a menu option…,”
